Swedish is a Germanic language. It has been influenced by Latin and French and is today heavily influenced by English. The Swedish language is also spoken in parts of Finland.

In the Swedish alphabet there are three additional letters, Å, Ä and Ö. They are pronounced as follows:

Swedish for Immigrants, SFI, is a basic course in the Swedish language and Swedish society for people whose native language is not Swedish. To study SFI you must be over 20 years of age, be registered for population purposes in the Municipality of Örebro and have a full personal identity number.
Courses vary in orientation, language level, and rate of study. The courses are free and the SFI education is a part of the Örebro municipality education system.
