She came back to do a second degree

Stella Bakibinga is studying her second year at the two years master’s programme of Electronic Government. Originally, she is from Uganda. She first came to Örebro University to study global journalism in 2005 and she enjoyed it so much that she decided to come back.

- I work as a university teacher back home in Uganda. I teach amongst other things journalism international relations, and development at the department of humanities. In order to increase one’s qualifications the university in Uganda supports the employees to go studying abroad. I applied for a scholarship to come to Örebro University and study E-government and I got it! E-government is a very new thing in Uganda. I think that I will be able to go back after my studies and help introduce e-governance practices in Uganda.

To return to Örebro University was an obvious choice for Stella.

- I knew where I would go, that’s why I chose Örebro. My first time studying at Örebro University had been so good. There were lots of students and the buildings and facilities were so modern and new. Örebro as a town is quite and I like that very much. Compared to for example Stockholm, which is very busy. I don’t like crowds. Örebro is good because it’s nice and quite.

Stella is in general very positive towards the Swedes.

- I like the fact that they mind their own business. And that once you open up to them they are really good and friendly. Swedes are very kind. I also love their generosity. I have some really good Swedish friends.

But she has noticed a few peculiarities.

- I have noticed that Swedes make a lot of noise, especially on the buses on Friday and Saturday nights. Still, Sweden is definitely the best European country. I’ve been previously to Finland and Germany.

Although she misses home she would definitely come back and visit after she has finished her degree.
