The Master in Molecular Medical Biology is a two-year study program for students with a bachelor's degree in science or medicine. The program seeks to provide the students with a broad level of competence in scientific methods and modelling for a future career as research leaders in life sciences and in the pharmaceutical and process industries. It also provides a current overview of the latest analytical tools and animal model systems as well as the research training needed to pursue a Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry or Medicine.
The programme is offered by Örebro Life Science Center (ÖLSC) at Örebro University and is organized by Biology at the Department of Natural Science. The ÖLSC consists of an interdisciplinary array of researchers in biology, chemistry, biomedicine and medicine at Örebro University.
General organisation and content of the program
The two-year programme includes both theoretical and practical elements. It provides a background in experimental design, scientific methods used in research and animal models used in contemporary scientific research. The program focuses on new and emerging diseases and theories and methods in drug design and testing. The program also provides the students with training in animal care and ethics. It gives the students numerous transferable skills, including how to write research proposals, manuscripts and give professional presentations. In addition, the program aims to give the students insight into entrepreneurship and the process of formulating an idea and turning this idea into a commercial application. Integrated in the program is a journal club and seminar series where the students have the opportunity to broaden their scientific knowledge.
1st year
- The autumn semester contains two 10-week courses:
Science Methodology and Molecular Medical Techniques
- The spring semester contains two 10-week courses:
Model Systems and New and Emerging Diseases.
2nd year
- The autumn semester contains one 10-week course in Drug Development.
- Thereafter the remaining 30 weeks of the program is dedicated to the Master thesis.
Programme Syllabus
Entry requirements
The applicant must have a Bachelor's degree (a Swedish Kandidatexamen) or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognised university. The university has to be listed in the latest edition of the International Handbook of Universities.

Master's level English requirements and exemptions
Selection
The places on the programme are distributed proportionally to the number of qualified applicants whose main field of study is biology, chemistry and medicine/biomedical laboratory science respectively, and other applicants. Within each group, eligible applicants are ranked based on the total number of completed higher education credits on the last application date.
