PhD programme in
Media and Communication Studies

Within Media and communication studies at Örebro University there is a PhD programme that leads to a philosophy doctor’s graduation. The education includes 240 points divided on 75 points courses and 165 points thesis paper. The education is generally carried through in four years and is finished with a disputation where the PhD student’s doctor’s thesis is publicly scrutinized. During the studies the PhD students are guided by one of the subject’s professors.

The PhD programme contains several mandatory courses in scientific methods and in Media and communication studies traditions and research areas. Above that special courses are given that the PhD students can pick from out of their own interest of the subject and their aim of the research. The PhD students also have the possibility to take courses at other universities. For the PhD students the attendance of the advanced seminar is mandatory.

The research studies are closely tied to the research projects and the research programmes that together constitute the subject’s special areas.

Currently eighteen PhD students are studying at the PhD programme in Media and communication studies at Örebro University. The ambition is that the number of PhD students will increase during the following years.
