Abstract
The overall aim of EU Project RACE ("Robustness by Autonomous Competence Enhancement") is to develop an artificial cognitive system, embodied by a service robot, able to build a high-level understanding of the world it inhabits by storing and exploiting appropriate memories of its experiences. The project's target application scenario is a waiter robot in a restaurant. Using this scenario, I will provide an overall description of the project, with a focus on the challenges that mainly concern our group, namely hybrid knowledge representation and reasoning, planning, and plan execution monitoring.
