My research concerns antisocial, criminal behavior, and psychopathology. The main purpose is to produce basic knowledge that can be used to facilitate preventive work and treatment. Examples of questions that I focus on are; (1) What differentiate the more frequent, severe antisocial youths from other antisocial youths? (2) Is there a need for special treatment alternatives for specific subgroups of antisocial individuals? (3) How does the more frequent, severe antisocial behavior develop? (4) What are the early risk factors for adult psychopathy? (5) How are psychopathic criminals different from nonpsychopathic criminals in terms of treatment-relevant variables? I am involved in research within several different ongoing and already-existing research projects. The projects are all longitudinal and involves children and adolescents in the normal population as well as adult incarcerated offenders sentenced for violent crime.
