Sangeeta Bagga-Gupta är professor i pedagogik vid Genusvetenskap, Institutionen för Humaniora, utbildnings- och samhällsvetenskap, Örebro universitet. Hon är även forskningsledare vid Habiliterings forskningscentrum, HFC, Örebro läns landsting. Hon är vetenskaplig ledare för den tvärvetenskaplig nätverksbaserade forskningsmiljön Communication, Culture and Diversity, CCD, sedan slutet av 90-talet.

Sangeeta Bagga-Gupta är aktiv i ett flertal internationella och nationella akademiska föreningar och är dessutom styrelsemedlem bl a i den globala Southern Multilingualisms and Diversity Consortium och Swedish Participatory Action Research Consortium, SPARC. Hon är sedan 2008 projektledare och föreståndare för Vetenskapsrådets nationella forskarskola Literacies, Multilingualism and Cultural Practices in present day society, LIMCUL. Sangeeta Bagga-Gupta har varit styrelseledamot i Vetenskapsrådets Utbildningsvetenskapliga kommitté, UVK 2007-2012. Hon är medlem (eller har varit medlem) i styrgruppen för fyra stora nationella forskningsplattformar/forskarskolor där flera lärosäten och ämnen ingår: (i) LIMCUL, (ii) Utbildningsvetenskap med inriktning mot didaktik, UVD, (iii) Teknikburna kunskapsprocesser, TKP, och (iv) SPARC. Hon är medlem i Advisory Board för IES, International English Schools i Sverige.

Sangeeta Bagga-Gupta har en uttalad tvärvetenskaplig och flerfälts/disciplinär bakgrund. Hon disputerade inom det tvärvetenskapliga området "Communication Studies" vid Linköpings universitet och innan dess läste hon vid Hull University (M.Ed), England, SNDT University (M.Sc), Mumbai och Delhi University (B.Sc), Delhi. Hon har ett väl utvecklat internationellt samarbete med universitet på flera håll i världen. Hon har under åren 2012-2014 fått utmärkelsen ”Framstående senior forskare” vid Örebro universitet.

Forskningsinriktning

Sangeeta Bagga-Guptas forskningsintresse rör, på ett övergripande plan, människans (i) kommunikation, (ii) lärande och (iii) identiteter i såväl historiska som nutida kontexter, inklusive IKT och teknologier. Frågor kring barn, unga och vuxnas livsvärldar intresserar henne. Hur sociala kategorier avseende (i) identiteter (såsom kön, etnicitet, funktionshinder) och (ii) språk (såsom olika språk, två/flerspråkighet, flerspråkighet, hemspråk, främmande språk, olika teckenspråk) framträder i olika sammanhang och praktiker inklusive policy är centrala i hennes arbete. Problematiserande av "gränser" och en orientering mot intersektionalitet som forskningsobjekt, men även som kunskapsobjekt, genomsyrar hennes forskning.

Hur olika literacies och mångspråkighet gestaltas i skolan, specialskolan, arbetsplatsen, familjen, fritiden i olika samhällen och tider berörs i hennes arbeten. I fokus ligger generella frågor kring lärande inom och utanför institutionella kontexter och didaktiska frågor avseende olika skolämnen/fält (t ex olika språk, tvåspråkighet, läs och skriv, matematik, musik). Utöver detta fokuseras teknologiers plats i människans liv både historiskt och i början av 2000-talet.

I hennes användning av etnografiska forskningsansatser sammanvävs i en bred metodologisk ram (i) mikrostudier och diskursiva studier av vardagslivet, (ii) mesoanalyser av sociala praktikers organisationer över tid och rum och (iii) makroansatser som fokuserar samhälliga nivåer. På liknande sätt skapas synteser av sociokulturella/sociohistoriska perspektiv och postkolonial teoribildning.

Samhällsutvecklingsprojekt

Sangeeta Bagga-Gupta är aktiv inom universitetets tredje uppgift och är för närvarande vetenskapligt ansvarig för det stora regionala utvecklingsprojektet Delaktighet och teater, Dot, som finansieras av Kulturrådet. Hon bygger upp forskningskapacitet vid Mumbai Mobile Creches, MMC i Indien. Hon har varit ansvarig för ett antal nationella skolutvecklingsprojekt och utvärderingar med extern finansiering,
bl a Skriv- och läsprojektet finansierat av Skolverket, Idéskolor för mångfald finansierat av departementet via Myndigheten för skolutveckling och uppdragsprojektet Barn och Ungas Språkande och Literacy i dagens samhälle, BUS, som finansieras av Nationellt Centrum för språk-, läs- och skrivutveckling.
