Martin Karlsson är doktor i statskunskap. Hans forskningsintressen kretsar kring politisk representation, kommunikation mellan medborgare och förtroendevalda, samt informations- kommunikationsteknologins betydelse för demokratin. Han studerar inom ramen för sitt avhandlingsprojekt hur förtroendevalda realiserar sin roll som politiska representanter och kommunicerar med medborgare via olika fora så som lokala medborgardialoger, politiska internetforum och bloggar.
