Specific entry requirements


Biology

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade on courses of at least 120 credits in biology, including an independent project, as well as at least a further 30 credits on the second cycle. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, the higher advanced course level/80 credit level under the older provisions shall be considered as corresponding to the second cycle under the current system.

Business Administration

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 120 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level, in business administration. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

 

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

This primarily refers to a passing grade on courses of at least 80 credits under the previous credit system, including an independent project at the advanced course level/60-credit level, in business administration.

Chemistry

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 120 credits, including an independent project at the advanced course level or on the second cycle, in chemistry alternatively in a related subject area. The provision that a related subject area may provide access to the programme only applies on admission to the programme specialisations in life science or environmental science. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, 120 credits as described above shall correspond to 80 credits, including an independent project at the advanced course level/60 credits level or at the higher advanced course level/80 credit level, in chemistry alternatively in a related subject area under the older provisions.

Computer Science

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Master of Science in Engineering or a one-year Master's degree from a programme within the subject field or related subjects, or if he or she has received a passing grade of at least 120 credits, including an independent project on the second cycle, in a main field of study of relevance to the computer science field. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, an independent project on the second cycle shall in accordance with the above correspond to an independent project on the higher advance course level/80 credit level under the previous higher education system.

Culinary Arts and Meal Science

 A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has a Degree of Master (60 credits) in culinary arts or another main field of study of high relevance to the research field in question. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

 

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

Disability Science

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has passed courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level, in a main field of study of relevance to the disability science field. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

Therefore, the advanced course level as specified above shall in accordance with the transitional provisions correspond to 60 credits under the older provisions.

Economics

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level in economics. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

 

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

Therefore, 90 credits and the advanced course level as specified above shall in accordance with the transitional provisions correspond to 60 credits and the advanced course level under the older provisions.

Education

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has passed courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level in education. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

Gender Studies

 A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level in gender studies or a closely related subject. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, the advanced course level shall in accordance with the above correspond to a passing grade on courses of at least 60 credits under the previous credit system, including an independent project on the previous advanced course level/60 credit level in gender studies or a closely related subject, in accordance with older provisions.

History

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has passed courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level in history. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous credit system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

Human Geography

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level, in human geography. A person who has received a passing grade in courses of 90 credits in geography also meets the specific entry requirements for the third-cycle programme in human geography if the independent project at the advanced course level has a human geography specialisation. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, the advanced course level shall in accordance with the above correspond to a passing grade on courses of at least 60 credits (including an independent project on the advanced course level/60 credit level) in human geography under the previous credit system, or similarly 60 credits in geography if the independent project on the advanced course level/60 credit level has a human geography specialisation.

 Informatics

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level, in informatics. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, 90 credits and the advanced course level as described above shall correspond to 60 credits and the advanced course level under older provisions.

Language Studies

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level, in English, the Swedish language, literary studies or rhetoric, depending on the specialisation applied for.

A person also meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has a teaching degree with a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits in the school subject of English or Swedish, including an independent project on the advanced course level in English, the Swedish language, literary studies or rhetoric, depending on the specialisation applied for. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

Therefore, the advanced course level as specified above shall in accordance with the transitional provisions correspond to the 60 credit level under the older provisions.

Legal Science

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Master of Laws, a Degree of Bachelor of Legal Science, or a qualification from an older programme in law (Sw. juristlinjen), alternatively a Degree of Master of Legal Science (60 credits), including an independent project on the second cycle in law. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, the second cycle shall in accordance with the above correspond to at least the 80 credit level under the previous credit system.

Mathematics

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject and the mathematics specialisation if he or she has a second-cycle degree in mathematics or closely related subjects, or if he or she has received a passing grade in courses in mathematics of at least 120 credits (including an independent project), of which at least 30 credits on the second cycle.

A person also meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject and the mathematics education specialisation if he or she has a second-cycle degree in mathematics education or closely related subjects, or if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 120 credits (including an independent project) in mathematics or mathematics education (or equivalent), of which at least 45 credits should be within each specialisation and at least 30 credits in total should be on the second cycle. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, 120 credits as described above shall correspond to 80 credits under the previous credit system, including an independent project at the advanced course level/60 credits level or at the higher advanced course level/80 credit level. At least 20 credits of these should be at the higher advanced course level/80 credit level.

Mechanical Engineering

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has obtained a Degree of Master of Science in Engineering or a Degree of Master (60 credits) from a programme within the main field of study or a related main field of study. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

Media and Communication Studies

 A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 120 credits, including an independent project on both the advanced course level and on the second cycle, in media and communication studies or in an equivalent main field of study. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

This primarily refers to passed courses of at least 80 credits under the previous credit system, including an independent project on both the previous advanced course level/60 credit level and the previous higher advanced course level/80 credit level, in media and communication studies.

Medical Science

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level within a main field of study of significance for the relevant specialisation within medical science (see subject description, section 1 in the general syllabus). A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

This refers primarily to a passing grade on courses of at least 60 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level/60-credit level, in a subject of significance to the relevant specialisation within medical science (see subject description, section 1 in the general syllabus).

Musicology

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has
Degree of Master (60 credits) in musicology or music education. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

Political Science

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level in political science. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, the advanced course level shall in accordance with the above correspond to a passing grade on courses of at least 60 credits in the subject, including an independent project on the advanced course level/60-credit level in accordance with older provisions.

Psychology

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level in psychology. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, the advanced course level shall in accordance with the above correspond to a passing grade on courses of at least 60 credits in the subject, in accordance with older provisions.

Social Work

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Social Work of 210 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level, or if he or she as part of their degree has a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level, within a main field of study of relevance for doctoral studies in social work.
A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, a Degree of Bachelor of Science in social work of 140 credits under the previous credit system, including an independent project on the advanced course level/60-credit level, or a passing grade in theoretically oriented courses of at least 60 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level/60-credit level, within a subject of relevance for doctoral studies in social work.

Sociology

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level in sociology. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

In such cases, the advanced course level shall in accordance with the above correspond to a passing grade on courses of at least 60 credits under the previous credit system, including an independent project on the advanced course level/60 credit level, in sociology.

Sports Science

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level in sports science or another subject of high relevance to the scientific field in question. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

Therefore, the advanced course level as specified above shall in accordance with the transitional provisions correspond to 60 credits under the older provisions, including an independent project on the advanced course level/60 credit level, in sports science or another subject of high relevance to the scientific field in question.

Statistics

A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes in the subject if he or she has received a passing grade in courses of at least 90 credits, including an independent project on the advanced course level, in the subject and at least 30 credits in mathematics. A person who has acquired substantially corresponding knowledge, in Sweden or abroad, also meets the specific entry requirements.

Transitional provisions

A person with credits or qualifications from undergraduate programmes under the previous higher education system corresponding to the entry requirements in the previous paragraph will also be eligible.

This primarily refers to a passing grade on courses of at least 60 credits (including an independent project on the advanced course level/60 credit level) in the subject and at least 20 credits in mathematics under the previous higher education system.
