About Axel Vikström
Axel Vikström is a PhD candidate in media and communication studies. The starting point for his PhD project is to study media representations of the so-called "super-rich" in the context of the crisis tendencies of neoliberal capitalism. Drawing on critical discourse analysis, the project explores how billionaires and wealth taxation are portrayed in Swedish legacy newspapers, focusing on how discourses circulating in media texts interplays with the (re)production of material and social inequalities.
His research interests also include critical realism, critical theory, class, ideology, critical political economy and critical discourse analysis. Axel holds a master’s degree in media and communication studies from Lund University and has previously worked as a freelance journalist and columnist.
