About Axel Vikström
Axel Vikström is a PhD candidate in media and communication studies. The starting point for his research is the relationship between economic inequality and perceptions of extreme wealth. In his research, he explores how economic elites are portrayed in Swedish and international media, focusing on how the (in)visibility of economic elites in the media shapes discourses on power, democracy and inequality in a time of increasing gaps between rich and poor.
His research interests also include neoliberalism, philantrocapitalism and critical discourse analysis. Axel holds a master’s degree in media and communication studies from Lund University and has previously worked as a freelance journalist and columnist.
