About Axel Vikström

Axel Vikström is a PhD candidate in media and communication studies. The starting point for his research is to study contradictions within neoliberal capitalism by investigating discourses on extreme wealth. In his PhD project, he draws on critical discourse analysis to explore how billionaires are portrayed in Swedish and international media, focusing on how discourses on power, morality, democracy and justice dialectically interrelates with the (re)production of material and social injustices.

His research interests also include critical realism, critical theory, class, ideology, critical political economy and critical discourse analysis. Axel holds a master’s degree in media and communication studies from Lund University and has previously worked as a freelance journalist and columnist.
