About Miriam von Schantz

Project

Participant during 2019 in Social Impact Lab, developing an applied science project entitled The Audiovisual Vaccinationcard. This aims to produce and offer a tool for certification for adults in professions where an increased comptence to handle and think the veracity claim of the moving image in is need.

Research

Research areas include method and theory development with focus on the hinterland of documentary/mockumentary film/moving images, questions of spectatorship in relation to discourses pertaining to problems of factuality and truth-claim as well as the question of the spectator as a political subject.

Dissertation

The dissertation investigates events of spectating mockumentary films. Through an experimental reception study a theoretical and methodological framework is offered in order to discuss events of spectating where the spectator is at loss to recognize whether a film is documentary or mockumentary or perhaps neither. In addition to the conceptual apparatus, the results suggest such event to reconfigurate the relation between the spectator and the discourse of factuality amounting to a renegotiation of the spectator as a political subject.

Earlier research has, from a Foucauldian persepctive, dealt with the truthclaim of the moving image and the politics of the notion of indexicality.
