The ‘Theorising Men and Masculinities’ project is a development from longstanding empirical, conceptual and theoretical research and scholarship. It is an established research strand within the GEXcel field: Critical Studies on Men and Masculinities as part of the GEXcel International Collegium for Advanced Transdisciplinary Gender Studies. More specifically, the project focuses on:

i)                    contemporary development on methodologies and theorising on men and masculinities;

ii)                  the implications of the intersections of different feminist traditions and theories for critical studies on men and masculinities; and

iii)                debates on naming, hegemonies, (de)stabilisations, materiality and discourse, concepts of gender/sex and gex, and the possibilities of the abolition of “men” as a gender category of power.

The project engages with and problematises dominant frameworks on masculinities to more complex and pluralist approaches, in intersection with feminist theorisings. Editorships and memberships of editorial boards include: Men and MasculinitiesNORMA: International Journal for Masculinity StudiesCulture, Society and MasculinitiesInternational Journal of Men’s Health.
