In this interdisciplinary project, work is underway to define what "Optimal Functionality" means for older people. The basic assumption is that health and functional ability is fundamental to the definition of quality of life and the need for health and social care among older persons. A first Review article on older person’s subjective experience of Optimal Functionality was compiled. The work continues now with the analysis of data from focus groups, surveys and pedometer measurements attained from older persons living in senior housing, ordinary housing and from older active orienteers. Several studies are planned in order to gain a deeper understanding of the concept of optimal functionality among older persons.
