Despite improvements in clinical practice over the last 20-30 years, hospitalized children continue to experience unrelieved pain. Systematic pain assessment using structured scales is considered the foundation for effective pain management. The aim of this narrative review is to synthesize research findings regarding the use of structured pain assessment scales in children 0-18 years in a hospital setting.
