The hormonal system control many diverse functions throughout life including growth and pubertal development of children as well as stress response, blood pressure regulation, reproductive functions, and mineral and bone metabolism throughout life. Consequently, research and development in the area of endocrinology is crucial to improve diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of a large number of important diseases affecting a large part of the population with large impacts on human health and society, like diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular disease. The multifactorial nature of these conditions requires a broad approach. Expertise from all areas of research, ranging from epidemiology, genetics, and experimental research to clinical trial expertise, are included in the network and allow for interdisciplinary approaches that can make important contributions to the understanding and treatment of endocrine diseases.
