Örebro University has conducted strong research for many years in areas focused on the role of diet in health and well-being. The Food and Health Centre brings together the University's unique interdisciplinary expertise and creates a new infrastructure that integrates research in food, nutrition, technology, medicine, and the social sciences.

Örebro University aims to help make Sweden a leading global actor in the development and consumption of foods with health benefits. This will be achieved through the systematic building of knowledge, competencies, and skills.

The Food and Health Center’s research strategy focuses on a number of prioritized areas for research and innovation, all linked by a common theme: how our dietary choices and lifestyles affect us as individuals.

In its initial phase, the center places strong emphasis on understanding how individuals respond to the food they eat, an area known as responsive nutrition. The center also seeks to expand knowledge about how other substances that we ingest through food influence our health, and how this knowledge can best be communicated to those who need to benefit from it.
