Internet of things – networking IoT devices, 3 Credits

Örebro University is offering, in cooperation with RISE SICS, an introduction course in the Internet of Things (IoT), focusing on networking IoT devices. The course will offer knowledge in the basic concepts within IoT networking and the programming of IoT applications, as well as the selection and application of different network protocols for resource-constrained IoT devices.

Internet of Things.

During the course, the student will learn to evaluate the performance of a network of IoT devices by using simulation. After completing the course, the student will be able to design and program solutions for an energy-efficient network of IoT devices. The course is part of the education initiative Smarter at Örebro University.

  • Basic concepts and network protocols for IoT applications.
  • Areas of application for IoT with resource-constrained devices (sensors and actuators).
  • Network protocol for the secure collection of sensor data from resource-constrained, networked devices.
  • Practical programming of resource-constrained, networked devices using the Contiki-NG operating system.
  • Evaluation of different network protocols using simple analysis and simulation.

The course is designed as a distance learning course with a few compulsory activities. It consists of a series of online lectures, group discussions, compulsory independent study exercises and seminar presentations and a case-based learning task.

Please note that the course is taught in English.

This contract education initiative is aimed at working professionals with a higher education qualification of 180 credits earned at the first cycle (bachelor's level) with computer science/computer technology as the main field of study, or alternatively a higher education qualification of 180 credits earned at the first cycle (bachelor's level) in e.g. computer technology/computer science/systems science (which includes computer programming).

In addition, English B/English 6 is required.

The course is free of charge.
