Music Traditions of the Middle East I, 7.5 Credits

In this course we get acquainted with overall characteristics of some of the Middle Eastern musical traditions. You gain theoretical and practical knowledge of different scales, form types and improvisation patterns, as well as knowledge of how Middle Eastern music influences and is influenced by other musical traditions in times of migration. The course ends with a concert where we perform the course's repertoire in our own arrangements that we have worked on together.
