The research centre AASS arranges a seminar with Magnus Lindhe, Electrolux, Sweden.

Abstract

Electrolux recently released the PUREi9 robotic vacuum cleaner, which uses a novel 3D laser scanner to avoid obstacles and do SLAM. This talk will describe the sensor and the core algorithms used for SLAM, obstacle avoidance, path planning and cleaning patterns. Its ends by a summary of important lessons learned during the project and some brief speculation about the future of robotic vacuum cleaners.

Short bio

Magnus Lindh  got a MSc in electrical engineering from KTH in 2004 and a PhD in automatic control in 2012. His thesis was called "Communication-Aware Motion Planning for Mobile Robots". He has also worked as a technical officer in the Swedish Armed Forces, and was co-founder of Activio AB, which develops heart rate feedback systems for physical training. Since 2012, Magnus works at Electrolux, developing navigation software for robotic vacuum cleaners.
