Abstract

Within the past decade, people have started to communicate
with technologies in increasingly human-like ways, marking a fundamental
shift in how communication is defined and studied. In this talk,
Dr. Andrea L. Guzman explains the emergence of Human-Machine
Communication as an area of research within the study of communication
and how a communication approach can serve as an important lens for
understanding people's interactions with social machines, developing new
technologies, and identifying and addressing emerging social and ethical
issues.
