Academic Writing I is a course for doctoral students at Örebro University. This semester, the course is offered entirely online. Three credits are awarded for participation in the course sessions together with work done between meetings.

Participants gain knowledge of academic writing in English through analysing and discussing different types of published texts in their fields, by doing writing exercises, and by giving feedback on each other’s texts. The emphasis is on improving individual writing skills and language awareness. You should therefore have a work-in-progress manuscript to work on during the course.

The course focuses on structure and coherence in academic writing. Over the six sessions, we will discuss and try out different writing strategies, and you will also give response on drafts written by other participants. Recorded material will be made available between sessions, so that we can spend most of our time together on discussions and exercises.

All sessions will take place via Zoom on Friday mornings, 9:00–12:00
