About Mats Eriksson

Mats Eriksson is head of research for the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) and group leader for the MKV environment in strategic communication (SCOM).

His research focuses primarily on the connect between strategic communication, organisational communication and risk and crisis communication.

In recent years, he has conducted research within several external projects related to crisis and risk communication, including at DEMICOM at Mid Sweden University. He is currently managing two research projects externally funded by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). The first studies the conditions for home preparedness campaigns in troubled times, while the second deals with risk and preparedness communication for a robust digital urban society. Both projects are interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary in nature and are conducted in collaboration with other higher education institutions and research environments.

Another area of his research is the development of methodologies for crisis and risk communication for crisis managers, information officers, and communicators. Mats uses both qualitative (e.g., interviews) and quantitative (e.g., surveys) research methods.

Mats Eriksson is the author of several books, book chapters, reports, and scientific articles in the fields of strategic communication, crisis management, crisis communication, and risk communication.

An important part of his activities is external research and investigative assignments over the years for the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, SOS Alarm, and the Swedish Transport Administration, among others.
