Previous studies have shown that the oral intake of proteins from different sources can differently affect the secretion of a hormone called growth hormone.

This hormone is important for the regulation of the body's metabolism. For example, growth hormone can affect biological processes in the liver, muscles, bones, and fat tissue as well as the release of other hormones, which in turn can affect protein, fat, and glucose metabolism.

As there is a shift in our society towards a more plant-based diet, due to the environmental benefits of plant-based proteins, the aim of the study is to investigate the effect of different plant-based proteins on the secretion of growth hormone and our metabolism.

The study consists of an initial examination (approx. 30 minutes) during which you will fill in questionnaires including information about background health, medication intake, weight, height, lifestyle, and dietary habits. If you meet the criteria for the study, you will be able to attend the other four visits at Campus USÖ, Örebro University (approx. 3.5 hours).

During all four study visits, you will drink a test drink and we will take a blood sample before consumption and at several times up to three hours after you have consumed the test drink.

At each study visit, you will drink a different test drink – the drink contains water and either isolated pea protein, isolated faba bean protein, isolated whey protein or a placebo.

All study visits take place on Campus USÖ and participants receive SEK 3.500 in taxable compensation.
