The overall aim of this project is to develop an artificial cognitive system, embodied by a service robot, able to build a high-level understanding of the world it inhabits by storing and exploiting appropriate memories of its experiences. Experiences will be recorded internally at multiple levels: high-level descriptions in terms of goals, tasks and behaviours, connected to constituing subtasks, and finally to sensory and actuator skills at the lowest level. In this way, experiences provide a detailed account of how the robot has achieved past goals or how it has failed, and what sensory events have accompanied the activities.

The role of the AASS Cognitive Robotic Systems Lab will be to develop tools for representing knowledge of a hybrid type, e.g., including causal, temporal and ontological aspects; for grounding this knowledge in the physical world through perception and action; for reasoning from this knowledge; and for using this knowledge in planning and monitoring the execution of robot tasks.

RACE is a EU FP7 STREP project. The overall budget is about 4,000,000 EUR. The share of Orebro University is about 630,000 EUR.
