Talking Books via Legimus

The Swedish Agency for Accessible Media, MTM, is responsible for producing talking books. These talking books are available for listening through the digital library Legimus. The University Library registers your Legimus account and assists you with your inquiries during your time as a student.

Not everyone is eligible for a Legimus account. One requirement is that you have a disability that affects your ability to read printed text. Another requirement is that the disability is permanent, meaning it is not temporary.

According to the Swedish Copyright law (Section 17), the University Library must adhere to these regulations.

Examples of disabilities that may cause difficulties in reading printed text:

  • Reading and writing difficulties, such as dyslexia.
  • Visual impairment.
  • Physical disabilities, like limited mobility, that makes holding a book difficult.
  • Intellectual disabilities.
  • Neurodevelopmental disabilities, such as autism and ADHD.
  • Temporary reading impairment due to reasons like injury or illness.

The library does not require a medical certificate but will always assess whether you are eligible for a Legimus account. Therefore, you will need to answer questions about your reading experiences. You may be denied an account if you do not meet the criteria.

The library will promptly, but no later than within three working days, respond to you to schedule an appointment.. During the meeting, an assessment will be conducted. If you meet the requirements, you will be given an account and an introduction to Legimus during the same meeting. The meeting typically lasts around 20–40 minutes.

What is the process like?

  1. Email the University Library at This is an email address.
  2. The library schedules an appointment with you.
  3. An assessment is conducted during the meeting to determine if you meet the requirements.
  4. You are either denied or granted access to an account.
  5. Together, we go through Legimus.
