MTM will no longer produce all course books as talking books
This means that there is a risk that some accessible course literature will not be available during the autumn semester. The Swedish Agency for Accessible Media (MTM), which is responsible for the Legimus library, will no longer produce all course books as talking books. MTM has also removed some books that were previously available in Legimus.
Legimus is a library of talking books, Braille books and e-text books.
This decision was not made by Örebro University Library. It was made by MTM following an assignment from the Swedish Government.
MTM expects the new accessibility legislation to result in more accessible e-books becoming available and will therefore not produce a talking book if a commercially available accessible e-book version already exists.
Due to pricing and licensing conditions, Örebro University Library is unable to purchase these course books as e-books. We hope to find solutions going forward, but at present some books are therefore available neither as accessible e-books through the University Library nor as talking books.
What this means for students:
- The University Library can no longer request the production of a talking-book version of a required course book if a commercially available accessible e-book exists.
- Some books that were previously available in Legimus have been removed.
- Students who need course literature in an audio format will probably need to use e-books on different platforms instead of having all their books available in Legimus.
For the time being, the following applies:
- Students may need to purchase more books than before. Please note that some books are not available to purchase as e-books and can only be rented.
- If a commercially available e-book is not sufficiently accessible for a student's individual needs, or if information about its accessibility is unavailable, please contact the University Library.
