He was previously dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Gothenburg and has worked at Chalmers University of Technology and Luleå University of Technology. He has international experience from South Africa, Canada and Australia.
Research
Åke Ingerman holds a PhD in physics with a focus on pedagogy. His research is based on the encounter between students and technical and natural sciences content, from primary school to university.
The methodological framework of the research is primarily phenomenography and variation theory. The majority of the studies Åke Ingerman has led are practical classroom studies in collaboration with teachers. The studies use both qualitative material in the form of interviews with teachers and students and video recordings, for example of teaching, and quantitative material, for example results of knowledge tests and background data on students. The research provides insights into how students perceive and understand key concepts and skills in science, mathematics and technology, and how the teaching of these can be designed to best facilitate learning.
The overall goal is to develop teaching and strengthen student learning.
Education
He has taught in teacher training, in mathematics and physics in civil engineering education, in master's programmes, in courses on higher education pedagogy and at the postgraduate level. He has supervised and supervises several doctoral students with a focus on subject didactics.
