Örebro University’s new vice-chancellor was inaugurated with pomp and ceremony.

Head of authority, strategist, a representative of academia – but also ambassador, fundraiser, and a leader to inspire hope. On Friday, Åke Ingerman was inaugurated as the new vice-chancellor of Örebro University and expectations are high.

The vice-chancellor’s various roles – combined with the role universities play in a troubled world – was a common theme of the speeches throughout the evening.

“We need hope,” said Maria Jansson, professor of gender studies at Örebro University.

She welcomed Åke Ingerman to a university full of commitment and dedication, where winds may sometimes grow strong.

Albina Olausson

The president of Örebro Student Union, Albina Olausson, welcomed the vice-chancellor to a university, which despite its young age is still older than many of its students. “We hope that you will view us, not merely as students, but as a natural and essential part of the academic environment”, she said.
