Vice-Chancellor’s Blog: Merry Christmas and a relaxing holiday season!

A christmas tree.

The year is drawing to a close. Here at the university, the Örebro University Choir held their traditional, yet always original, Kalastider Christmas concert and led a festive Lucia procession at Restaurant Kraka. Next week, do not miss the School of Music’s Christmas concert at Nikolaikyrkan in the town centre.

This past Thursday, the University Board held its last meeting for the year. Among other things, they decided on the 2024 budget and discussed the budget proposal to be forwarded to the government in February. The budget proposal details the university’s plans and aspirations for the future. In summary, the board is delighted with our progress. Our board members are confident in the university’s ability to develop high-quality research and education while managing its finances. The chairman expressed a special thanks to everyone who has worked diligently to create the conditions for a balanced budget.

Next year, Örebro University will be 25 years old. We will celebrate this, adding a special touch to several activities for all employees while also reaching out to the public and our local community. In 2024, collaboration within our European university alliance NEOLAiA will begin, involving eight other European universities within NEOLAiA. This alliance will provide excellent opportunities for students, teachers, researchers, and support staff to develop and learn together with our European colleagues.

But first, let us take a relaxing and well-deserved holiday with our loved ones.

Thank you, everyone, for your brilliant effort over the past year!
I wish all our staff a very Merry Christmas!
