Demolition in progress. The Learning Lab team, Magnus Hansson and Anna-Eva Olsson, are looking forward to the new flexible learning environments evolving in Långhuset at Örebro University.

Construction is currently taking place on Learning Lab 2.0 in Långhuset at Örebro University. A new classroom and study area will be finished this autumn.

Akademiska hus and Örebro University are collaborating to create new learning environments that will promote innovative teaching methods and enhance active student learning. Please note that during the construction period, it may be noisy at times in Långhuset.

A messy spring – but with more study spaces in autumn

“We really hope that our students have some understanding and will choose other study areas during the spring,” says Anna-Eva Olsson, project coordinator and coordinator for learning environments at Örebro University.

In autumn, there will be even more study areas in Långhuset.

Once the work is complete, even more study areas will be available for students. Both the lecture room and the study area in Learning Lab 2.0 will open for drop-in studying when they are not booked for teaching.

Challenging traditional teaching methods

The goal is to have the new lecture room and study area completed by autumn 2025. The lecture room will be available for reservation starting 15 September – with an inauguration on 17 October.

In the Learning Lab, learning occurs in new ways - in an environment where students are at the centre of it all. You'll find flexible learning environments that support and stimulate you in active learning,” says Magnus Hansson, pedagogical developer at the Centre for Academic Development and docent at Örebro University School of Business

What is Learning Lab?

  • Learning Lab is a collaboration between Örebro University and Akademiska hus. The first Learning Lab at Örebro University was inaugurated in the spring of 2022 and covers an area of approximately 300 m².
  • The goal is to develop knowledge of how room design, teaching methods and technology can be used to shape future learning environments in new and remodelled buildings.
  • Learning Lab 2.0 encompasses an additional area of approximately 250 m². It is currently under construction in the wing opposite Learning Lab 1.0 in Långhuset at Örebro University.
