All students at Örebro University can now nominate teachers for this year’s Excellent Teaching Award. The award, presented by the Örebro Student Union on behalf of the university, is given to two teachers who inspire and demonstrate innovative thinking in their teaching.

Since 1999, Örebro Student Union has, on behalf of Örebro University, presented the excellent teaching award to two teachers who have “demonstrated resolve and an ability to create, together with the students, a learning experience on a scholarly basis, which is characterised by innovative teaching and learning methods; active knowledge development; critical thinking; and international perspectives”.

“For me personally, this award is significant for strengthening the bond between students, the student union, and the university,” says Ebba Löfgren, vice-chair with responsibility for education policy at Örebro Student Union. She continues:

“Since I have a background in teacher education, pedagogy is close to my heart. Through clear and purposeful collaboration, we can all grow together.”

Students can nominate their favourite teacher for this year’s excellent teaching award from 27 October to 9 November. Since 1999, the excellent teaching award has been presented by the Örebro Student Union on behalf of Örebro University to two teachers who have conveyed knowledge with dedication and pedagogical skills. The criteria require that teachers have designed a study environment characterised by innovation in higher education pedagogy, active knowledge development, critical thinking, and international perspectives.

“This award is of significant importance, both for the individual teacher and for the university as a whole. It’s an award to be proud of because it recognises pedagogical skill. The award emphasises teaching and can motivate further pedagogical growth, spreading good role models and examples,” says Karin Blomberg, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

An assessment panel selects two award winners. The nominees are entirely anonymous to the panel, meaning the panel does not know who the teachers are or even which school they come from. The assessment is based on the nomination texts written by the students, providing the reasons why the teacher should receive the award, and on the scores they received in the nomination form.
