Development projects
The EU and several national funding organisations, such as the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, structure its funding for regional development around projects and competitive calls.
Smart specialisation is the regional policy framework for innovation-driven growth. Put simply, smart specialisation acts as a method, working tool, and approach for prioritising initiatives and development projects that strengthen businesses, public infrastructure, research, and civil society, ultimately boosting Örebro County’s attractiveness and competitiveness.
ARC’s regional development projects are linked to smart specialisation by “contributing to benefits, innovation, development and synergies for several sectors through collaboration with expertise in AI, robotics, sensors and embedded systems”.
Pilot projects
Pilots are short-term projects where researchers collaborate with companies to address a societal challenge.
For technology- and investment-ready companies, this creates opportunities to adopt new technology and further enhance services and products through collaboration with researchers.
Using this approach, we aim to accelerate the implementation of new solutions. Pilots serve as a testing tool that effectively and thoroughly assesses the conditions for success across different subprojects. Consequently, pilots that fail to deliver results within the designated timeframe are discontinued.
- A six to twelve-month development cycle to advance the solution from TRL 4 to TRL 5 (some from TRL 5-6).
- Each pilot collaborates with at least two companies, one of which is an SME.
Collaborative projects
These projects are funded by Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency. Vinnova’s mission is to enhance Sweden’s innovation capacity to promote sustainable growth. The agency’s activities are overseen by the government and aligned with the sustainable development goals adopted by the UN in Agenda 2030.
With Vinnova’s support, companies and organisations can experiment and test new ideas before they become profitable. Every year, Vinnova invests approximately SEK 3 billion in research and innovation.
