This gives Sweden an exclusive opportunity to build knowledge, skills, and capabilities to become a leading global player in the development of plant-based protein foods.

Market Potential and Strategic Connection

Evidence-based knowledge about food processing, consumption, and the health benefits of plant-based proteins is currently limited, which slows down necessary development.
Sales of plant-based products in Sweden are increasing by at least 15% annually and are projected to reach SEK 2 billion by 2025. This represents a significant national and international market opportunity for the Swedish food industry – with benefits for both consumers and the environment.
PAN Sweden has a strong connection to the National Research Agenda for a sustainable and competitive food system, as well as to Sweden Food Arena’s innovation and research agenda for the food sector 2020.
