Who We Are

PAN Sweden was founded in 2021 as an interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral research center, coordinated by Örebro University and funded by FORMAS, the Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development

PAN Sweden provides evidence-based knowledge to make sustainable and healthy food the obvious choice – for both the planet and the consumer.

We bring together expertise from several Swedish universities – Chalmers, SLU, Uppsala University – as well as RISE – Research Institutes of Sweden, companies in the food sector, and public health organizations.

Our vision is clear:

Sustainably produced food with health benefits becomes the consumer’s first choice.

Connection to Agenda 2030

Reducing the environmental impact of animal-based foods is crucial to achieving the goals of Agenda 2030. However, innovation in plant-based protein alternatives is lagging behind.
We need to transform the food system toward more plant-based diets while addressing major health challenges such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, mental health issues, and chronic inflammation.
The preferred food choice should be healthy for both the planet and the consumer – which requires an innovative food sector and consumers willing to try new products.
