PAN Sweden brought together academia and industry to look ahead!

On September 1–2, a conference within PAN Sweden was held at Norrlands Nation in Uppsala. The event featured discussions and dialogues between industry and academic partners within PAN Sweden, and researchers from various disciplines presented what they have accomplished during the first four years of the project.
PAN Sweden is one of the research areas within the Centre for Food & Health and has, for nearly four years, conducted interdisciplinary research on how a transition from animal-based to plant-based protein may affect consumer health. The focus is also on developing plant-based, protein-rich products that are intended to be the consumer’s first choice.
— Over the past five to seven years, there has been a shift in funders’ attitudes regarding support for research projects, both among Swedish and international funders. They are now much more inclined to support interdisciplinary research projects, says Robert Brummer, Director of PAN Sweden.
The future of PAN Sweden
During the first four years, research has included studies on the effects of various plant-based proteins on gut and mental health, as well as consumer attitudes toward plant-based substitutes for animal products.
— We’ve wrapped up the first phase of PAN Sweden and are now looking ahead to phase two, says Robert Brummer.
