Risk communication for a robust digital urban society, DURCOM

A flooded park bench and a trash bin

In Sweden, the primary responsibility for crisis management lies with those most directly affected. This means that municipalities bear a significant responsibility – they are the foundation of the Swedish crisis management system. Researchers in the DURCOM project have examined how municipalities, as well as residents, communicate about risk and preparedness.

The project has been conducted during a turbulent period, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the reconstruction of Sweden’s total defence, NATO membership, and an escalating climate crisis – all occurring alongside rapid digitalization of society.
