PINN - Prevention of Infections in Nordic Nursing homes

Infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria constitute one of the most significant global public health threats. Residents of nursing homes are at increased risk of acquiring infections, making preventive measures to limit transmission particularly important in these settings.
The PINN study aims to assess the prevalence of bacteria, viruses, and infections. Morover to examine how infections are managed and how the transmission of pathogens is prevented among residents of nursing homes. The study is conducted across six nursing homes in three Swedish regions: Västmanland, Östergötland, and Örebro.
The PINN study addresses several knowledge gaps and aims to generate new evidence to reduce the incidence of infections and the transmission of infectious agents in nursing homes, as well as prevent antibiotic resistance.
The study will be conducted over a one-year period.
