The Internationalisation Award of Sweden's Medical Faculties
In 2017, Sweden’s medical faculties established a joint award for the internationalisation of higher education at the undergraduate and advanced levels.
The purpose of the award is to encourage teachers and teaching teams at the medical faculties to work towards increased internationalisation in education. The award is given to the teacher or teaching team that, during the past three years, has carried out a significant initiative to promote the internationalisation of higher education. The initiative should have added an international dimension to the programme and contributed to enhancing students’ global perspectives. Examples may include the development of virtual international teaching components, new experience in teaching in an international classroom, or initiatives that have promoted student or staff mobility.
The award amounts to SEK 140,000 (each faculty contributes SEK 20,000 to the award).
Nomination of candidates and award recipient
Nomination
All employees and affiliates are welcome to nominate themselves, other teachers, or teaching teams within their faculty. Students are welcome to nominate teachers and teaching teams within their faculty.
The nomination period is 1–28 February 2026.
Selection of award recipient
The selection process takes place in several steps. First, a local review committee at each faculty selects its candidate for the award. Thereafter, a central review committee appoints one candidate as the award recipient. The central review committee consists of members from all faculties. Both local and central nominations are assessed based on five criteria. The final decision and announcement of the award are made at the annual Deans’ Meeting, which in 2026 will be held in Umeå on 16–17 April.
Nominations must be submitted via the nomination form below and then sent to Karolin Östergård, Administrative Coordinator, Faculty of Medicine and Health.
Nominations may be submitted in Swedish or English.
