About Adam Jackson

Medical intern with research orientation at Örebro University Hospital. Work on the project “Pain sensitisation in patients with atrial fibrillation” began in September 2020 when Adam, together with his supervisors from the Department of Cardiology, USÖ and a world-leading pain research group at Aalborg University, began investigating the association between pain mechanisms and symptom burden for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Adam completed his medical degree at Örebro University in January 2023.

The project was accepted for the PhD program at Örebro University in May 2023 where Adam was enrolled as a part-time PhD student, simultaneously working as a medical intern at Örebro University Hospital.

The first study, indicating differences in pain perception in patients with symptomatic AF compared with asymptomatic, was published in Openheart in June 2020. Project II aims to investigate differences in biomarkers related to pain in patients with symptomatic AF compared with healthy controls. The third and fourth studies are set to examine differences in pain signalling pathways and the central perception of pain in patients with AF.

The project is estimated to be completed in 2030.
