About Benita Salomon

I am a PhD-student at the School of Medical Sciences and part of the research groups Inflammatory Bowel Disease and translational gastroenterology and Functional Bioinformatics. I studied Nutritional Sciences (B.Sc) at the Justus-Liebig University in Gieβen, Germany. I continued my education with the master’s program in Nutritional Molecular Medicine and Bioinformatics at Örebro University. In my master’s project I analyzed the effect of a probiotic intervention on the fecal microbiota composition as a part of a clinical trial. I started my PhD-project at Örebro University in November 2020.

In my PhD-project, I am analyzing the expression of mucosal and serological proteins relevant in inflammatory processes, as well as the gut microbiota composition in patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The aim of my project is to identify prognostic and diagnostic biosignatures in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and increase the understanding of the disease and its underlying pathology. Ultimately, the overall aim of my project is to contribute to improvements of diagnostics, prognostic possibilities, as well as personalized treatment for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
