About Manar Bitar

Manar Bitar is a consult physician and medical supervisor for Clinical Chemistry, Laboratory medicine, Örebro University Hospital. Manar has direct responsibility for haematology analyses such as hemoglobin, blood cells and investigation for hemoglobinopathy, coagulation analysis including thrombocyte function tests and clinical chemistry analyses (e.g. analysis for lipids, carbohydrate metabolism, electrolytes and minerals).

My PhD project is about Pro-collagen III N-peptide, PIIINP as a biomarker of inflammation and fibrosis. PIIINP is the most well established biomarker of liver fibrosis in patients treated with methotrexate and is suggested to be as a fibrotic marker in other organs, such as kidneys, intestines and lungs. In this project, I will work to characterize the PIIINP in more detail not only as a biomarker for liver fibrosis but also as a marker for fibrotic processes in other organs such as the intestine, lungs, and skin and as a marker of remodulation of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in preclinical arteriopathy.
