About Manon Fallet

Manon Fallet is a researcher specializing in environmental epigenetics at Örebro University (ORU) in Sweden. Her research delves into the molecular mechanisms, particularly focusing on epigenetics, underlying organisms’ response to environmental and transgenerational impacts, with implications for adaptation and evolution. She possesses a strong background in molecular biology, evolution, and ecology, defending her PhD at the University of Perpignan Via Domitia, France in 2019, where she explored the environmental and immune responses of Crassostrea gigas to various stressors (main publication: Fallet et al, 2022).

Following her doctoral studies, Manon pursued her postdoctoral research at Örebro University, investigating the transgenerational response of zebrafish to PFAS (2020-2022) (Fallet et al, 2024) and later at the University of Oxford, studying epimutations and gene expression changes in lines of C. elegans exposed to cisplatin (Fallet et al, 2023).

Research description

Manon's research integrates physiology, embryology, behavioral tests, molecular biology, multi-omics analysis, and bioinformatics. In her project EpiClim, she uses zebrafish to study the transgenerational impact of climate change, PFOS, and their combined effects.  This research investigates the physiologic, transcriptomic, epigenetic, and microbiota influences on zebrafish, exploring how these effects are transmitted to future generations.

Aiming to uncover how molecular interplay shapes adaptation, Manon's work offers insights into the intricate relationships between environmental changes and molecular responses, facilitating efforts to conserve vulnerable species. Additionally, her research contributes to understanding how environmental factors impact gene expression and physiology across generations, providing new perspectives on stress susceptibility, health outcomes, and prevention strategies.

Manon's academic potential and contributions have been recognized through a PhD fellowship at ED305, University of Perpignan Via Domitia (2016-2019), and the FORMAS Early Career Grant - starting grant (4M SEK 2023-2027).

Teaching and science valorization

Manon is actively involved in teaching through several bachelor and master courses, including Food Microbiology (course coordinator), Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, and Biological Forensics at the School of Science and Technology at ORU. She also draws from previous experience in teaching Genetics and Animal Physiology at the University of Perpignan Via Domitia.

In addition to her research and teaching activities, Manon is convinced of the importance of science popularisation. She is engaged in various science communication events, such as Pint of Science, Sweden, where she holds the position of city coordinator for Örebro.
