About Markus Jansson

Markus Jansson works as a consultant at the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the Örebro University Hopsital. Since May 2017 he is a doctoral student at the School of Medical Sciences, Örebro University.


His degree project during specialist medical training, analyzed the cost-effectiveness of antibiotic prophylaxis in elective cesarean section.

The doctoral project concerns pelvic floor dysfunction and perineal and vaginal tears in women delivering their first child. The first two papers focus on the validity of documentation of obstetric perineal and vaginal tears, and incidence and risk factors of these tears, respectively. The third paper examines prevalence and risk factors of stress and urgency urinary incontinence at 1 year postpartum. The fourth paper in the studies changes in prevalences of fecal incontinence, obstructed defecation and vaginal bulging during pregnancy and after childbirth, and risk factors of these types of pelvic floor dysfunction at 1 year postpartum.  

Markus defends his thesis "Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and Perineal and Vaginal Tears in Primiparous Women" 20 May 2022 9am in Hörsal C1, X-huset, Örebro University Hospital.


Markus Jansson lectures about female pelvic floor anatomy and physiology at the medical school. He also leads seminars on the subjects abortion and sterilization, and on global health with focus on maternal and child health. Furthermore, he also lectures about perineal lacerations for midwives and residents in obstetrics and gynecology.
