About Virginia Rosales
Virginia Rosales is a Senior Lecturer in Business Administration at Örebro University. Her research focuses on how people create meaning, coordinate work, and develop expertise in complex organizational settings, particularly in healthcare organizations. Through ethnographic research, she studies how organizational routines, sensemaking, and everyday work practices shape organizational performance and change.
Research
Virginia conducts research within organization studies, with a particular interest in organizational routines, sensemaking, organizational ethnography, embodiment, and sociomateriality. Her research examines how people navigate uncertainty, coordinate action, and create meaningful work practices in complex environments. Much of her work is based on long-term ethnographic studies in healthcare, especially emergency care settings, where professionals must balance stability, flexibility, and rapid decision-making.
Her current research focuses on three interconnected areas:
- Organizational routines and patterns of action
- Sensemaking, embodiment, and materiality in organizations
- Organizational ethnography and qualitative research methods
Teaching
Virginia teaches courses in organization, leadership, management, research methods, and governance at both bachelor's and master's levels. She is particularly interested in helping students develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to understand organizations as dynamic social systems. She also supervises master's theses and teaches qualitative research methods, including ethnographic approaches and qualitative data analysis.
Collaborations and assignments
Virginia collaborates with researchers in Sweden and internationally, including scholars in Canada and across Europe. Her research has involved interdisciplinary collaborations with healthcare researchers and practitioners.
She is an active member of several international research communities within organization studies and regularly serves as a reviewer for leading academic journals and international conferences. She also contributes to researcher development and academic community building through her engagement in the Junior Faculty board at Örebro University.
