About Zhewen Gao

Zhewen Gao is a PhD student at the Machine Perception and Interaction (MPI) Laboratory within the AASS Research Centre, funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research. His doctoral project is to advance the fundamental principles underlying design of intelligent systems by developing a unified computing framework that integrates algorithmic design with physical implementation. Inspired by the human brain, where computation and hardware are tightly co-designed, the project aims to move beyond traditional computing paradigms, such as the von Neumann architecture, in which algorithms and hardware are treated as separate layers. Instead, the research project seeks to establish a holistic approach where computational, algorithmic, and implementational aspects are jointly optimized.

Zhewen Gao obtained his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. Prior to that, he got two Bachelor's degrees, one in Communication Engineering from UESTC (Chengdu, China) and another in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Glasgow (Glasgow, The United Kingdom).
