Young people’s trust in scientific and technological solutions to climate change

On September 29th 2026, during the Mining@ORU conference at Örebro University, Maria Ojala held a popular scientific presentation about young people’s trust in scientific and technological solutions to climate change.

This kind of trust is sometimes seen as a way of remaining passive and avoiding responsibility. Is young people’s trust in technological solutions just wishful thinking, or positively related to different kinds of climate-change engagement, and what are the possible explanatory factors to this? She discussed the findings from a survey-based study with 1600 adolescents and an interview study with adolescents expressing a high degree of this kind of trust, both within the scope of this project, supported by the Swedish Research Council Forte.
