The IDA program is granted funding from FORTE
Jonas Persson has received funding from FORTE for a new data collection and increased availability of research data within the IDA-program (individual development and adaptation).
The aim of the project is to explore if and how early- and mid-life factors and their interactions influence health, cognition and wellbeing in older individuals, and to gain a better understanding of how and to what extent health and well-being in a lifespan perspective will act in a protective manner against potential negative consequences of for examples stress, economic hardship, and various medical conditions.
The research project includes new data collection along with digitalization and increased accessibility of research data from the IDA-program. The research project is unique and one of only a few worldwide studies with access to childhood and mid-life across-domain behavioral and health measures for estimating health and well-being in older age. The results from the proposed research project, in combination with already existing national data in the field of aging research, would provide new and critical information about the causal effects of earlier life predictors in older age, such as well-being, mental and physical health and cognitive functioning. Knowledge gained from the data collection and continued support of the database could translate into efficient intervention programs, as well as successful policy changes and clinical programs that affect public health.
