Research grant for neonatal pain project

Emma Olsson receives her grant

When “Lilla Barnets fond” announced their yearly research funding, Emma Olsson was rewarded with a grant for her project cloROP, that aims to study clonidine as pain relief during eye examination of premature infants.

Children that are born very preterm are at the risk of developing eye problems; Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). They undergo repeated eye examinations that are stress- and painful. Until now there is no effective way of alleviating this pain. Clonidine has an increased use as pain relief in neonatal care and the multi-center cloROP-study will examine if it also will be an effective pain killer during eye examinations.
