Research group

Children?s (multi-)languaging and literacy in early childhood education

About this group

Group information

The research group collaborates to develop knowledge about children's learning processes related to (multi)lingualism and literacy in preschool education, and to enhance understanding of children's written language activities in preschool teacher training and early school years.

The group's research focuses on issues related to educational professionals, with particular emphasis on the development of (multi)lingualism, reading, and writing skills in the preschool setting. Additionally, the research is grounded in preschool practice and explores ways to incorporate (multi)lingualism and literacy into play and daily routines in preschool environments. From a professional perspective, the experiences of preschool teachers and their didactic strategies for fostering language development through practices and environments are highlighted.

The members of the research group are active in the European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA), the Network for Preschool Researchers, and the National Literacy Network. Martina Norling is a Convenor of the Multilingual Childhoods SIG and is part of the Nordic Research Group (NELE).
