Associate professor lecture - Lina Tingö

27 May 2025 15:15 – 16:00 Hörsal X1, Campus USÖ

Lina Tingö

The newly appointed Associate Professor at the School of Medical Sciences, Lina Tingö, is giving her inaugural lecture titled ¨Origins of Health: Human Milk and Immune Messaging Across the Maternal–Infant Axis¨

What is an Associate Professor
Associate professor is an academic title that signifies a level of competence significantly exceeding that required for a doctoral degree. To be appointed as an associate professor by the MH Committee, one must demonstrate scientific expertise and independence, pedagogical competence, and subject proficiency.

Lina Tingö's research explores how bacteria and the immune system interact to shape health across the human lifespan, from childhood to old age. She studies how maternal factors and immunomodulatory molecules in breast milk influence the infant's immune development and risk of disease, such as allergies in full-term infants and necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm infants.

She also investigates how dietary supplements, such as probiotics and omega-3, affect microbiota and immune function, both during the perinatal period and in older adults, and how these factors interact to promote life-long health.

We warmly invite you to listen to the inaugural lecture!

The lecture will be held in English.
